There can be a lot of things that go into owning an ATV. One of the things that you have to make sure you do is actually take care of it and do the necessary maintenance on them. If you’re Mr. Fix It, then you are going to need tools to do so. There will always be something that breaks unexpectedly whether it be in the garage or on the trail. Make sure you have the proper tools for your ATV in your arsenal to do so.
Not only do we recommend you have these tools in your garage, but it is also good to have a small tool kit on your ATV when you’re out hitting the trails. Anything could go wrong, and if you don’t have proper tools to fix something, you could end up hitching a ride on the back of your buddies machine and leaving yours until you can bring your truck to it.
T-Handle Socket Set
T-Handle sockets will be your best friends. There are going to be a lot of tight spaces you are going to need to get into when you’re working on your ATV. The length of these and the leverage it gives you will greatly benefit you. Also, how many times have you dropped a socket and lost it? These things will always be at your side. It’s good to make sure all bolts and fasteners are tightened before you ride, these will do the trick.
Impact Wrench
Sure. You can do it the old fashioned way way with a little bit of elbow grease and some leverage with a socket or tire iron to try and break free those lug nuts. Sometimes that sucks. A lot. Just get an impact wrench so you have it. Do you really need it? No. But these machines were put together using power tools, why shouldn’t you have the proper equipment?
Tire Pump/Air Compressor
This is just anything that can fill your tire up with air if you need it. I always recommend getting an air compressor just because it’s so much easier and there are multiple other things you can use a compressor for in your life. Just invest in one for your garage, you won’t regret it.
Tire Plug Kit
Come back from the trail and the next morning you go outside and your tire is flat. It sucks. But if you have one of these tire plug kits, you can have that flat tire fixed in no time. Instead of taking the tire off and going into town to spend time and money having someone else do it, just buy one of these kits. Sooner or later someone is going to get a flat tire. Don’t let a flat tire ruin your plans to ride.
Torque Wrench
These machines are built on a basis of tolerances. Everything was engineered and designed a specific way for the machine to run properly. So don’t you want to take it apart and put it back together properly? The torque wrench will allow you to tighten everything according to the manufacturer’s specifications to ensure a smooth ride.
Allen Wrench Set
Not everything that needs to be tightened or loosened on an ATV is going to be a socket. There will also be bolts that have a hex top for the allen wrenches. It all depends what part of the machine you are working on.
Torx Wrench Set
Kind of like the allen wrench set, there will be some bolts that require a torx wrench (start tip). Instead of buying a whole set you can also just get the bits as well. Some of the plastic parts and special bolts require torx.
Needle Nose Pliers
Needle nose pliers are pretty basic, but what a tool they are. They can do almost anything. Grab something you dropped, take off a hose, loosen a hose clamp, pop off that plastic insert etc. Just buy them.
Miscellaneous
It is also good to have all of your basic tools in your tool box, which I hope you all already have, and I shouldn’t need to mention this. But I will anyways.
- Screwdrivers
- Pliers
- Vice Grips
- Cable cutters
- Rubber Mallet
- Jack
- Adjustable Wrench
- Channel Locks
There is probably more but you get the point. Not every tool may actually be used the way it’s supposed to but as long as it works and gets the job done properly then who really cares?
